SafeHorns Attends Safe Campus Summit in Las Vegas!

Our first Safe Campus Summit is one for the books! Honored to be among so many University Police Chiefs and staff members from across the country that are passionate about campus safety and student quality of life.

SafeHorns is honored to now call Chief Thomas, USC Department of Public Safety, a friend. His leadership and his department’s incredible commitment to safety on and around campus is inspiring. USC Trojans have suffered tragic loss like our campus community. We look to them as a model for public safety in an urban environment. Immediate response from the USC President, their Chief, and even their Mayor to create collaborations with the City and LAPD is commendable.

Longhorns, there is much that we can do improve safety on and around campus that will positively impact the quality of life for generations of students to come. It’s time for change, lighting, patrol in West Campus, cameras, and an orientation (New & Transfer Students) that includes practical protocols on how to support those experiencing homelessness with compassion, ways to best serve and report criminal transients, and ways to handle crime and concerning behavior on and around campus. Text Alert Opt-In for family members of students, faculty, and staff is needed and necessary.

Let’s learn from other safe campuses so that we can make UT Austin the safest campus in the country!
